PEI Symphony seeks Guest Conductor for February 2013 Concert

The PEI Symphony Orchestra is presently seeking a Guest Conductor for our February concert in our 2012-2013 season.

THE ORGANIZATION:   The PEI Symphony Orchestra is dedicated to bringing live symphonic music of high quality to the people of Prince Edward Island, and to contributing to the artistic life of the community through the presentation of a series of live concerts.

Currently celebrating its 44th season, the PEISO provides experience and practical training in orchestral music for Island students and community musicians; provides the members of the orchestra with the opportunity to learn orchestral music representative of all styles and periods, and performs it in concert to the very best of their individual and collective technical and musical abilities.

THE OPPORTUNITY:  The Guest Conductor will prepare appropriate repertoire for the concert, scheduled for February 10 or 17, 2013;  will lead the orchestra through four 2.5-hour rehearsals during the concert weekend;  and will then conduct the concert on Sunday afternoon.


  • A Degree in Music, preferably focused on conducting;
  • proven experience as an instrumentalist;
  • excellent musicianship, conducting skills & musical knowledge;
  • instructional and/or mentoring skills that support effective learning by community orchestra members; and
  • the ability to relate to an audience as well as strong leadership and communication skills.

HOW TO APPLY:   Please send a cover letter, curriculum vitae of no more than four pages, a recent DVD or link to online videos of you conducting (the video must show the candidate conducting from the front in at least three different styles and in a rehearsal or performance setting), a proposed programme for the concert (in which there are two fixed pieces: a new work to be written by a PEI resident composer as part of our current ‘Call for Scores’ project and a concerto performed by the Suzanne Brenton award winner from the PEI Kiwanis Music Festival Association) and three current professional letters of recommendation to:
